BIOAKTIVITAS EKSTRAK ETANOL BATANG KARAMUNTING (Melastoma malabathricum) SEBAGAI ANTIBAKTERI TERHADAP BAKTERI Bacillus cereus DAN Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi

Abstract

The aims of this study to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract stem Karamunting (Melastoma malabathricum) against bacterial Bacillus cereus and Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi and determine the best concentration levels of antibacterial. The design used in the experiment was  completely randomized design (CRD). The factor was the variation of the  concentration (10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%,90%, 100%), designed as treatments. The number of replication for each treatment were three replication. Data analysis using the Kruskal-Wallis test using the programapplied in Statistical Social Packed and Science (SPSS) 22 and proceed continued by using Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that the widest of inhibition zone of the extract was in 60% concentration with diameter 13.14 mm and the smallest was in 10% concentration with diameter 7.55 mm for B. cereus. On the other hand for S. Typhi, the widest inhibition was in 90% concentration with diameter 13.22 mm and the smallest was in 40% and  whereas for the bacteria S. Typhi the biggest power of the inhibition was indicated on treatment with 90% inhibition of 13.22 mm and the smallest at a concentration of 40% concentration with diameter 5.32 mm. These results indicated that ethanol extract stem Karamunting showed antibacterial properties, although still lower than chloramphenicol activity.
